Choosing a finish that belongs
Think about light, planting and the feeling you want the studio to bring to the garden.

Start with the setting
Look at the materials already around your home and garden. Brick, stone, foliage and paving provide a useful starting palette. Your studio can sit quietly within it or create a deliberate contrast.
Watch the light change
A material that feels warm in morning light may look very different in shade. Consider the studio from the house as well as from the garden, and at the times of day you will use it most.
Compare the same form
Use the material explorer to compare natural timber, dark timber and aluminium on the same building. Keeping the architecture constant makes it easier to notice what the finish changes.
